WallPaper & Faux Plaster Finish Combo

Part of the kitchen and breakfast area is shown above.

This home flooded and the floors and walls needed to be replaced, and/or repaired.
The kitchen wallpaper was the homeowner’s favorite and she really wanted to find the same thing to replace it.
Unfortunately it was no longer made, but she did have enough left over from the original job to replace the main area of the kitchen, just not enough for the breakfast room.
*I had an idea*   :)
I asked her: “Why don’t you have a chair rail put up around the breakfast room and I can add a faux plaster finish below it, matching the colors to the wallpaper’s background?”
She loved the idea!
About 12 inches of wall was removed all around the home.
It was quite a bit of work to remove what was left of the old papers on the now dry sheetrock.
I also stripped the paper from all the walls in two bathrooms, primed, then faux plastered and painted those rooms as well.

Did I tell you I was her original paperhanger which was 12 years prior?
It was just a coincidence that she found me, but BOTH of us were very glad to see each other again.

Then, after stripping paper and applying a wash.

…And the final product.

The Powder Bath –

The paper was used to make a border around the top because the homeowner wanted to preserve a bit of it.

Wallcovering Installation in Cypress, Texas – by ‘Wallcovering Installation By Michelle’

Flora Teal, a Graham & Brown wallpaper, really brightened up this living area.
The whole room is very happy!
First photo below is the room before I started.
I will post any pictures I get from the homeowner once the room is put back together!

I have been a professional paperhanger in the Houston and Cypress, Texas areas for several decades. I learned my craft as an apprentice. I was taught by two very skilled ‘wallpaper ladies’ who were perfectionists. They asked, and expected, no less of me. I am a proud member of the Wallcovering Installers Association which allows me to keep up with the latest products, techniques and wallcovering materials. It is an ever changing industry and, like anything else, being professional means I must stay informed. You can trust me to install your material like I was working in my own home. I am neat, honest, conscientious, and truly enjoy what I do for a living.

Teal and Gold Powder Bath

I loved this paper so much I may hang it in a room in my own home. The dark paper was the original paper.
Although there was some prep work, I did not have to worry about much of it because the homeowner removed all the existing paper and took down the lights and other things from the walls. He did an amazing job, I must add. I then repaired some areas and primed the walls.
The paper went up beautifully although my photos do not capture the finished look as well as I had wished.

Back At The Horse Farm

I’m finally getting to post some pictures up of this job. I worked quite a while at this home and then I went right into a few more jobs so I couldn’t get my pictures sorted and sized for my Blog. I do not have all of them ready but I think this sampling will be plenty.

Considering the walls and rooms look pretty easy, the job was a bit slow. All the rooms had major wall prep issues to deal with. The main areas and halls had textured, glossy paint on them and the paper for those areas was very thin. That wallcovering also needed to be hand trimmed on both sides, which is a slow process. The bedrooms and baths had paper on them that did not want to come off. I took care of each room in the way that best suited the situation and hung lining paper in every one of them before installing any of the wallpapers.

The paper used in both foyer areas and all the hallways is by ‘JuJu Papers’. This pattern is Sisters Of The Sun and the colorway is gold on cream. Owner Avery Thatcher is wonderful to work with and shipped very quickly, considering this is a hand printed material and made to order. Please check out the website if you are looking for some eclectic patterns that will go with almost any décor or style.

JuJu Papers is environmentally responsible in every possible way.

My client thought her rooms looked very ‘happy’ when all the papers were up. I think she’s right!

HERE IS THE PAPER FOR BOTH FOYER AREAS AND ALL THE HALLS:

I TOOK THESE TWO PICTURES THE DAY I MEASURED. NOTICE THE WOOD IS PAINTED WHITE AND THE CEILING IS LIGHT BLUE. I DID LIGHTEN THESE UP A BIT. THE WALLS ARE 9′ UP TO THE MOLDING.
